Artist’s Statement
According to Picasso, the chief enemy of creativity is “good sense.” For many years, I embraced “good sense.” Now, , I have the good fortune…and good sense… to embrace creativity.
I have always loved making things…changing things…moving things…finding things…collecting things…getting ideas. At some point, I began seeing how they could connect...or how they could “play” together. It is so much fun to be an artist. I love starting with an idea and seeing where it can go. The world today often makes little sense, but art can bring peace and beauty and new adventure.
Trying something new can be a bit terrifying; but excitement and terror are the same physical emotion. My mantra hangs in my studio: “It doesn’t work to play it safe.” Playing it safe is really boring…and I don’t want to be bored.
The “rules” I now live by in my life as an artist:
-
Keep asking the questions
-
One’s surroundings can always be beautiful
-
Inspiration exists everywhere
-
“It takes a long time to be young.” Picasso.
-
Art is the answer.
